There is nothing more luxurious to me than sitting in a hotel room with room service and a movie, all by myself. It is so rare to have time alone that these moments are precious. The hotel is an integral part of my travel experience. Not only is it the glamour of someone making my bed and bringing me food, it's also the first-hand design ideas that I find in the best boutique hotels.
Jake's has Soul.
One of the coolest places I've ever stayed in is Jakes in Jamaica. I got to know the owner Jason Henzell and his mom Sally Henzell when we were shooting there for Debbie Travis' The Painted House several years ago. Jake's is unique. The minute you arrive you feel laid back and twenty years younger. Little brightly coloured huts greet you nestled along the brilliant Jamaican coast line. Each hut is your own room and each one has its own style. Sally designed them all around the beat of this vibrant country. Colors are rubbed into the walls, bottles are used to magically filter the sunlight, showers are open air. If you need to recharge your batteries and at the same time get inspired to add a cheerful splash of color to your own home, then I highly recommend a visit to this corner of paradise.
