Tools and Materials Needed

Getting Started

  1. Clean the bathroom tiles.
  2. Prime the tiles using the high adhesive primer designed for shiny surfaces or for tile. Tape around the edges of the tub and use a drop cloth to protect its surface. Remember to wear latex gloves.
  3. You can also use this paint to cover any wallpaper. We used it to cover a small portion between the ceiling and the top of the shower tiles.
  4. Allow the paint to dry.
  5. Base coat the tiles; we used a sand yellow melamine paint and let the paint dry.
  6. Choose your pattern. We chose tiles at random. Tape off the tile border using 1/4" tape. A terra cotta colour was chosen for the alternating tiles. Use a miniature roller to fill in the squares.
  7. Allow paint to dry.
  8. Roll the black melamine paint over the rubber stamp and press onto the terracotta square.
  9. Roll a fresh coat of paint onto the stamp each time you replicate the pattern.
  10. The wall paper was base coated in the same sand yellow; a dark mustard was rubbed over the surface. Then the stamping design was incorporated. If you wish to continue the stamping on the wallpaper be sure to pencil in registration marks so the pattern remains horizontal.
  11. A zig zag design was also painted on the wallpaper; using a chocolate coloured acrylic paint.
  12. Mark out the area to be zig-zagged and paint with an artist's brush, freehand.
