Tools and Materials Needed

• low-tack tape
• stout beer
• Burnt umber powder pigment
• Rubbing alcohol
• Mixing spoon
• 2-inch paint brush
• Soft cotton rags
• Badger-hair softening brush
• Thin, pointed artist brush
• Spray varnish

Getting Started

1. Tape off the shape of the headboard. Divide it into two panels to make it look more realistic.
2. Apply 2 coats of cream base coat and let dry for 4 hours.
3. Mix the coloured glaze: 3/4 cup beer, 1/2 cup alcohol and stir in 1 tablespoon burnt umber powder pigment.
4. Dip your paintbrush into the glaze and apply in jagged, crooked lines, leaving darker lines and other lighter edges.
5. Take a soft rag and fold it. Blend the glaze together. With your brush, push the paint around, creating lines. Always move in one direction
