Getting Started
Recipe for coloured glaze: 1 part latex paint, 1 part water-based glazing liquid.
- Apply two coats of rust brown basecoat to the fireplace surround and mantel and let dry for four hours.
- Mix the two glazes. Sponge the gray glaze onto the surface, covering the area completely.
- Repeat immediately with the beige glaze.
- While the glazes are still wet, stipple the surface and blend the two colors to remove any sponge marks. Leave a hint of the rust basecoat showing. Let dry.
- Apply 2 to 3 coats of matte or satin varnish.
