Tools and Materials Needed
- 1.5-inch low tack tape
- Measuring tape
- Chalk Line
- Narrow foam rollers & paint trays
- 1-inch paint brushes
- 3 shades of pink
- 3 shades of blue
- 3 shades of beige
Getting Started
- (The walls were painted in the pale pink colour.)
- To create a faux tray ceiling, we painted three 5-inch stripes in three different colours, interrupted by a 1-inch shadow in between each colour, going all the way around the room.
- Measure in 5 inches, mark it, then 5 more, mark it, then 5 more, and mark it. Use a chalk line to create straight lines for your 3 colours all around the room.
- Tape off the first and third lines using low-tack tape. Paint two coats each in the medium shade of blue and pink. Let dry properly, then retape to paint the center stripe in beige. Let dry.
- Along one length and width of the room, tape a 1-inch stripe along the inside of each colour. Paint the stripe in the lightest shades of the matching blue, pink and beige. Let dry.
- Tape the second length and width the same way and repeat the previous step using the darkest shades of pink, blue and beige. Let dry and remove the tape.
- Tip: for a nice finish, make sure that you mitre the edges of the thin stripes where the light and dark shades meet, so that the colours meet in the corner at 45-degree angles.
