Getting Started
Glaze: Mix a very runny glaze of 1 part paint, 1 part glaze and 3-4 parts water. This should be very runny, like white water. Add more water if necessary.
- Basecoat the walls with 2 coats of sunny yellow latex paint. Let dry thoroughly.
- Measure the length of the wall. Measure and divide into panels with the chalk and plumb lines, alternating the width along the wall to 2-feet and 3-feet, that extend to approximately 6 inches from the ceiling and the baseboards.
- Using a border frame stencil, place it in the corners of each of the frames first and mark the edges, to make the rest of the straight border line easier to make and tape. Tape off all of the straight lines.
- Paint the border with the 3" roller and white latex paint. Use the corner stencil to give nice softly rounded corners to the frame. Let dry.
- A good border stencil should have a little overlay included to give the frame highlights. Pounce the highlight lines with a stencil brush and very pale blue paint. Let dry thoroughly.
- Veil the entire wall right over the panels with the light, watery mixture. Dip the brush into the glaze, and brush up and down over the wall, going only in a vertical direction. The effect should be a very light veil of white to offset the lovely panels underneath. It's okay to see the brush marks ? just make certain that they are all going in the same direction (up and down). Let dry.
- Do a second coat only inside the panels. There is no need to tape the panels, just stay inside the white border. Let dry thoroughly.
