For a girl who loves animals, a magical meadow was the perfect theme for this little girl. The ceiling was painted in soft lavender, and the walls were painted in cream highlighted with aqua border. Fanciful Trees
Materials Needed
- Low-tack painter's tape
- Pencil and ruler
- Chalk line [optional]
- Level
- dark brown latex paint, satin
- foam corner roller or 2" paintbrush
- indelible marker
- upholstery foam, approximately 1" thick
- scissors or utility knife
- foam core
- white craft glue
- leaf green latex paint, satin
- water based glazing liquid
- mixing container
- roller and paint tray
Getting started
- Mark out on the wall where the trees should go using low-tack tape
- Use a pencil and ruler [or chalk line, if prefered ] to mark in the tree trunk. Check that it is straight with a level. Fill in the tree trunk by hand
- Draw out a naive treetop onto the upholstery foam with the indelible marker and cut it out
- Trace the treetop onto the foam core and cut it out. Glue the foam core to the foam.
- Mix the green glaze and pour it into a paint tray.Use a roller to apply the glaze to the foam
- Press the foam stamp into position on the wall. Press down evenly over the entire surface, and lift off the stamp without smudging the paint
- While the glaze is still wet, make swirls randomly over the treetop with your finger to create the look of laves
Gate Headboard
Materials Needed
- green-brown and white latex paint, satin
- water-based glazing liquid
- mixing container
- 3" and 2" paintbrushes
- soft, clean, lint-free rags

- 1 part latex paint
- 2 parts water-based glazing liquid
Getting Started
A headboard was made for a single bed from 1" x 4" pine rubbed over in grassy green paint with a wash of white to give the illusion of a faded farmhouse gate
- Mix the green-brown glaze. Use the 3" paintbrush to apply the glaze to the wood; then wipe off the excess with rag to reveal the wood's grain
- Dip the 2" brush into the white paint. Remove the excess onto a rag and dry-brush over the top of the wood to give it an antiqued quality
