Tools and Materials Needed

Getting Started

  1. Remove the cabinet doors. Lightly sand and wash the cabinets and doors.
  2. Give everything a coat of high-adhesive primer. Let dry.
  3. Coat the doors with 2 coats of red latex paint. Let dry.
  4. Antique the doors with the black paint. Use a very little bit of the paint, removing the excess on a rag. Dry brush over the surface lightly. Build up the colour rather than removing. It's easier.
  5. Use a damp rag to get any excess black paint out of the groves of the door, and wipe lightly over the surface to reveal the red underneath.
  6. Follow the same technique to finish the cabinets as well.
  7. Apply 2 coats of water-based varnish.
  8. We applied a molding along the top of the cabinet, done in the same technique, for extra decorative detail.
