Tools and Materials Needed

• Sand paper
• TSP Cleaner
• High adhesive primer
• Roller, sleeves, & tray
• Green, and blue latex melamine (laminate) paint

Getting Started

1. In this kitchen, the melamine cupboards and the tile backsplash were painted in the same manner. Wash both the cupboards and the backsplash with TSP cleaner. Rinse properly and let dry.
2. Sand the cupboards lightly just to give the surface a tooth. It will help the primer stick even better.
3. Prime the cupboards and the backsplash with high-adhesive primer. Let dry thoroughly.
4. Basecoat the backsplash with 2-3 coats of the blue latex melamine paint. Let dry properly.
5. Basecoat the cupboards with 2-3 coats of the green latex melamine paint. Let dry properly.
6. It could take as long as a week for the melamine paint to cure.
