Tools and Materials Needed
- Sand paper
- TSP Cleaner
- High adhesive primer
- Roller, sleeves, & tray
- Green, and blue latex melamine (laminate) paint
Getting Started
- In this kitchen, the melamine cupboards and the tile backsplash were painted in the same manner. Wash both the cupboards and the backsplash with TSP cleaner. Rinse properly and let dry.
- Sand the cupboards lightly just to give the surface a tooth. It will help the primer stick even better.
- Prime the cupboards and the backsplash with high-adhesive primer. Let dry thoroughly.
- Basecoat the backsplash with 2-3 coats of the blue latex melamine paint. Let dry properly.
- Basecoat the cupboards with 2-3 coats of the green latex melamine paint. Let dry properly.
- It could take as long as a week for the melamine paint to cure.
