Tools and Materials Needed

Getting Started

  1. Panelling was applied to the dado section of the dining room to form squares. Very thin pieces of molding are tacked onto the inside of the squares, leaving just enough room to glue strands of plastic beads between the trim and the panels.
  2. After the beads are glued in place, a cake icing applicator is filled with plaster then squeezed over the beads, and smoothed into the grooves, so that all that is seen is the slight indentation of the beads. Let dry thoroughly.
  3. The pearls and panels are primed and painted bright white. The wall inside the panels is painted a bright green-yellow and let dry.
  4. A 1.5-inch band is taped with low-tack tape on the wall inside the panels, then a second band is taped right up next to it. Remove the first band of tape closest to the panel, which will leave an open strip that is painted a soft creamy taupe. Remove the tape and let dry.
  5. The beads are then highlighted. Using a small paintbrush paint over the beads with the panel basecoat. Put a damp rag over your finger and run it down the top of the beads, so that the colour is in the depressions and the beads are highlighted.
