Tools And Materials Needed

Getting Started

  1. Prime the walls and allow to dry.
  2. Base coat in the desired colour. We chose a soft seafoam green. Apply 2 coats.
  3. Tape off a band width measuring 1.5 feet from the ceiling. If you have high ceilings you may extend the band to 2 feet. Paint this band with 2 coats of white paint. Allow each coat to dry.
  4. Position the lattice stencil and pencil in the registration marks. These are small holes in the stencil which will tell you where to realign your stencil each time. Tape the stencil down with low tack tape.
  5. Dab the stencil brush into the paint, remove the excess on a soft rag and fill in the squares. We used a darker shade from the seafoam green used on the walls. Allow all the green squares to dry.
  6. Position the stencil over top of the green squares. You will now fill in the alternate squares with the shading colour. Ours was periwinkle blue.
  7. Do not fill the whole square in. With the stencil brush lightly shade in either side of the square. Feather the paint towards the center, leaving the middle white.
