GLAZING WOOD CABINETS

Tools & Materials Needed:
- Coarse and medium-grade sandpaper, a sanding block, or a palm sander Mask (optional)
- Paint stripper (optional)
- Clean rags Tack cloth (optional)
- Water-based glazing liquid
- Pale gray latex paint, satin
- Mixing container
- Thick sponge
- Satin acrylic varnish
- Varnish brush or foam brush
Instructions
Step 1. (Shot 1) Sand down the wood to remove any varnish. For big jobs, it’s advisable to wear a mask. You could use paint stripper first. Wipe the surface clean of any residue and sanding dust.
Step 2. (Shot 2) Mix the pale gray glaze: 1 cup glazing liquid, ½ cup water, ¼ cup latex paint. Dip the sponge into the glaze and wipe over the surface, moving in the direction of the grain. Start with a thin coat, let dry, and add more if required. You should be able to see the wood’s grain. Let the glaze dry thoroughly.
Step 3. Apply two coats of varnish, allowing each coat to dry.
