Instructions
UPPER WALL

Step 1. Measure and tape off a line where the upper wall meets the dado. This is usually 3 to 3 1/2 feet from the floor. Apply two base coats of cream to the upper wall and let dry for four hours.

Step 2. (Shot 1) Mix the two peach coloured glazes according to the recipe. Working in 3 to 4 foot square sections, apply the darker glaze first, brushing in diagonal strokes randomly over the surface.

Step 3. (Shot 2) Using the same brush, apply the paler glaze in the same diagonal strokes, filling in all the spaces around the darker strokes. Work quickly so the glaze will remain wet.

Step 4. (Shot 3) Use the soft bristle brush to blend the colors together. Start by blending along the same diagonal, then just tickle the surface in different directions to soften the effect. Remove the tape and let dry overnight.

LOWER WALL

Step 1. Tape off the line between the upper and lower wall. Apply two base coats of medium gray and let dry overnight.

Step 2. (Shot 1) One inch below the top of the dado, measure a 2" wide stripe, then mark with the chalk line to ensure it is straight. Run tape along the outside of the stripe lines. Fill in the stripe with charcoal paint. Remove the tape and let dry for four hours.

Step 3. (Shot 2) Mix the cream glaze according to the recipe for upper walls. Dip a wide brush into the colored glaze and remove the excess onto a rag. Drag the bristles lightly over the dado's surface in vertical and horizontal directions. This dry brush technique will give the dado a cloudy look.
