Tools & Materials Needed:
- Durabond-90
- Gray and black latex paint, satin
- Mixing container
- 4" paint brush
- foam stucco roller
- ruler and chalk
- low-tack painter's tape
- 1" paint brush
- metal or rubber combing tool
Instructions
Step 1. Mix equal parts Durabond and gray paint. Stir well.
Step 2. (Shot 1) Working in 3-foot sections, apply the mixture to the wall with a large paint brush.
Step 3. (Shot 2) While it is still wet, roll over the section with the stucco roller, flattening out any brush marks and creating the texture of flannel.
Step 4. Continue working in sections until the walls are covered.
Step 5. (Shot 3) Measure and mark off a 1 1/2" border down each corner edge and around the ceiling. Chalk will show up against the gray paint. Use painter's tape to tape off the border. Press down hard along the edge of the tape. Working in 5-foot lengths. use the small brush to apply black paint along the border.
Step 6. (Shot 4) Immediately go over the paint with the comb, pulling down vertically along the ceiling borders and pulling across horizontally down the wall border. This will give the impression of grosgrain ribbon. Let dry and remove the tape.
