PAINTED CEILING
PROJECT CATEGORIES
Tools & Materials Needed:
- Off white satin latex paint
- Low tack painters tape
- Cheesecloth
- Roller
- Measuring Tape
- Pencil
- Stamp
- Paper towel
- Stencil brush
Recipe
- 4 parts pale green glaze
- 1 part paint
Instructions
Step 1. (Shot 1) Apply one coat of off-white satin latex paint to the ceiling and let it dry overnight. Using low-tack painter’s tape, tape off an 18-inch border around the ceiling. Inside the band, loosely color-wash with a thin pale green glaze (4 parts glazing liquid to 1 part paint). Roll on the glaze and then dab it with a scrunched-up piece of cheesecloth to get rid of any roller marks and create a bit of texture. Remove the tape and let the paint dry.
Step 2. (Shot 2) With a measuring tape and a pencil, mark out where each stamp design will be positioned on the ceiling. Ours are approximately 10 inches apart. We used half of the diamond design around the border edges, taping off the other half. Apply a thin coat of gold paint to the stamp with a 1-inch paintbrush, being careful not to get paint into the grooves. Too much paint will leave globs on the ceiling and blur the lines. Dab the stamp on a paper towel to remove any excess if necessary.
Step 3. (Shot 3) Press the stamp firmly and evenly into position on the ceiling. Press uniformly over the entire stamp to have a clear imprint.
Step 4. (Shot 4) With white paint and a stencil brush, stencil a simple border around the edge of the green band to add any extra highlight.
